CISTERCIAN ART

A tour discovering Cistercian art,
characterized by a simple architecture,
with no decoration, which made frequent use
of arches and acute vaults.

Trisulti is one of the most famous Carthusian monastery,
and it was founded in 1204. You can visit the inner Church,
the old Pharmacy and the rich Library.

Casamari Abbey is one of the most important Gothic monastery of the period,
and it was founded in 1035 by Benedectines. It stands near Veroli.

Montecassino Abbey was the Medieval Italian cultural centre. It was completely destroyed
by a bombardment in 1942.
Just few documents, books and pictures were saved. In 1964 the Abbey was reconsecrated.
